Supplemental Medical Overview

Even with comprehensive coverage from your primary medical plan, you will still have some out-of-pocket expenses if you get critically ill, are seriously injured, or need to be hospitalized. Supplemental medical insurance offers additional protection to help you cover costs that arise in these situations.

You can enroll in any combination of the following plans as a new hire, during Open Enrollment, or if you have a qualifying life event. You pay the full cost of coverage through after-tax paycheck deductions. To see your premiums and enroll, log in to the UKG website.

Key features at a glance

Supplemental medical plans provide:

Cash benefits

that you can use to pay expenses not covered by your primary medical coverage.

Flexibility

to spend your benefit payment on whatever costs you’re facing, including medical bills, transportation costs, child care fees, and daily living expenses.

Financial protection

against the high costs often associated with accidental injuries, a serious illness, or a hospital stay.

An inexpensive way to supplement

a high-deductible health plan, giving you a cost-effective package of coverage that may minimize your overall medical expenses.

Keep in mind

On their own, supplemental medical plans don’t provide comprehensive medical coverage for your day-to-day health care needs. Rather, they’re intended to supplement the coverage provided by your primary medical plan.

Accident Insurance

Accident insurance supplements and enhances your primary medical plan by providing cash benefits directly to you (unless otherwise assigned) in cases of covered accidental injuries. You can use this money to help pay for medical expenses not covered by your medical plan, such as your deductible or coinsurance, non-medical bills or for everyday living expenses.

The plan pays via a schedule of benefits. The actual benefit amount will depend upon the injury sustained and the course of treatment involved.

You also are eligible for an annual $50 wellness benefit for each member of your covered family members when you receive one of the many wellness screenings, immunizations and tests included in your contract.

Critical Illness Insurance

Critical Illness coverage provides you and your family with peace of mind and financial security with protection against the financial impact of certain illnesses, such as a heart attack, cancer, or stroke. If you or a covered dependent experiences a covered illness, you receive a lump-sum benefit payment to help cover out-of-pocket expenses for your treatment that are not covered by your medical plan. You also can use the money to take care of other expenses, such as housekeeping services, special transportation, and child care, or replace lost family wages.

Choose from three benefit coverage options:

  • $10,000 associate coverage
  • $20,000 associate coverage
  • $30,000 associate coverage

No matter which option you choose, if you purchase coverage for yourself, you can purchase coverage for your spouse at up to 100% of your coverage amount, and your children are covered automatically at 50% of your amount at no additional charge. You also are eligible for an annual $50 wellness benefit for you and your spouse when you receive one of several health screenings included in your contract.

You can purchase this insurance even if you have a pre-existing condition, and you do not have to answer health questions in order to qualify for coverage.

Hospital Indemnity Insurance

A hospital indemnity plan provides supplemental payments to help offset your out-of-pocket costs associated with a covered hospitalization, such as co-pays and deductibles, transportation and meals for family members, help with child care, or time away from work.

Choose from two benefit coverage options:

  • Standard, which includes a $1,000 hospital admission and $100 daily hospital confinement benefit*
  • Enhanced, which includes a $2,000 hospital admission and $200 daily hospital confinement benefit*

You also are eligible for an annual $100 Mammography benefit.

You can purchase this insurance even if you have a pre-existing condition, and you do not have to answer health questions in order to qualify for coverage.

*Up to annual plan limits.
